Park Collection Planning , Development and WDCO Forum
There has been some interest recently about this really quite large space. I've borrowed a photo from Nicolas Bermond on Facebook to illustrate
As a member of the WDCO board I do see occasional updates from Hackney about what is going on here. I'll publish the full report, which I hope is not confidential, but my precis is:
Not very much really quite slowly.
Facebook hopes of a Waitrose are not to be realised. The use of the space must be for community benefit, according to Hackney's definition.
And the comment that it has been let, or more accurately, will be soon, to The Millco Project is correct. Take a look at their website. Millco are said to be good at managing this sort of community space.
The report to the WDCO board, written by Hackney is here WDCO Board July 2023 - Hackney Block D Update .pdf
I'll pick out a few snippets for you:
- "The Council and Mill Co. continue to work towards having the relevant legal agreements in place" - paraphrase for yourself but that sounds like modestly paced progress
- "Mill Co. specialises in arts, culture and well being, and we expect that they would target their approach to attracting organisations which fit in with this. [ . . . . ] This part of the offer is still in development, . . . . " - which possibly helps us understand a little what is going on.
- "While the costs of managing Block D are still being finalised Mill Co. paused on community engagement and discussion with local groups, as understanding the costs are key to understanding what can be offered in terms of space, and how it can be delivered." - paraphrase - this could all still go wrong.
- "Next Steps
Winter - Spring 2023-4
- Engagement with local groups and organisations
- Finalise the fit out details
- Progress fit out
- Marketing"
so don't hold your breath
